I'm going with juiced up gym rat because it just rolls off the tongue. Where do I place my bets?

This was really funny

My girlfriends in Brussels have a shorthand for sizing up a guy’s manliness: l’homme soja and l’homme poulet. Up to you to decipher which one is the red flag

Haha thats a good shorthand

Thanks for this great piece! I’m proud to inform you that your observation about video games being the essence of modern masculinity triggered spirited debate in my group chat of 7 guys who largely don’t play games.

Interview podcasts in particular seem like a category of media straight males love across the lowbrow to highbrow spectrum

Sorry I wanted to read this but I’m playing the new Monster Hunter alongside a guy whose username is “BallsBreath” and whose character is a mostly nude elven chick with turbohonkers

He (she)? Was nice with the charge blade tho.

Actually though, a great read. Very grateful to have a boomer dad who is just a straight chiller with very little man-hangups. Of course what that produced in me is something on the soyboy spectrum (fashion, video games, talking about feelings), but I have found a balance by getting some guns and being physically strong. I think there are new kinds of men emerging, finally. All the models we have are like 300 years old with leftover DNA from a couple thousand years before that. I have to imagine there was also tension when Neanderthals started noticing a lot more of those upright type fellas walking around

I’d read a “new type of guy” starterpack.

This is very funny! It does explain something I have often wondered about—why are men over 40 so obsessed with the youth and what the youth are doing. The are in such a panic about it. So it’s a thing about their fathers? I guess my bafflement is that I don’t know any men like this—I am married to one, he is over 40, he has no such anxieties about the male teens and their sex lives, or about teens generally. He was very close to his father, a wonderful man in every way, and he is an absolutely amazing father. All the men I know are good fathers, and their children seem to be doing well, and the are not worried about the sex life of teenagers. But online—my goodness!
